Centre County Long Range Transportation Plan

Introduction/Overview

A Long Range Transportation Plan serves as the official, adopted plan for a metropolitan area and directs transportation decision making for a twenty-year period. Federal regulations require that long range transportation plans be updated every 4 years, for a metropolitan area to be eligible for federal transportation funds.

The Centre County Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) is being prepared through a partnership of the Centre County Metropolitan Planning Organization (CCMPO), Centre County Government, Centre Area Transportation Authority (CATA), and PENNDOT. These organizations are working together to ensure that the plan will comply with current legislation:

Safe Accountable Flexible Efficient Transportation Equity Act:  A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU)

Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21) of 1998

Clean Air Act Amendments (CAAA) of 1990

Pennsylvania Municipalities Code, Act 247 of 1968 as amended

Pennsylvania Executive Order No. 1993-3 for State Land Use Planning.

The Centre County LRTP will have a multimodal focus including roadways, public transportation, bicycle/pedestrian, freight, rail and air facilities. The LRTP will establish a list of priority projects for future action.
